Mustaches and Ministries

Today we started our English Lessons. Most of them went really well, and the students all seemed to learn something. We started off with a meeting of the Christians at the camp in the morning (some more on that in a later post), and then had breakfast and started lessons. Our first lesson was on family, relations, and such. Our second was on appearance, and our third was sports.

This little kid wasn't in our class, but we handed out mustaches
They loved them.

This is us playing Soccer/football during the lesson on sports.
We also played baseball. This was one of the better lessons,
not only because they enjoyed it more, but also because it was
much more casual and the conversation flowed more easily.

After lunch we went out to a field and played a few games.
We played Soccer while blindfolded, and a kind of telephone.

After supper we sang some songs and Mr. Jeff shared the gospel through The Bread of Life illustration. It went wonderfully! Two of the girls in my class spent at least an hour talking with the Pastor about Christianity, and several of the adults talked to him as well. Afterwards we played some games and went to bed.

Czech Republic, day three, Friday, First Day of English Camp

So the main reason we came to the Czech Republic was to assist the long term missionaries in an English Camp they have once or twice a year as an outreach to non-Christian Czechs. Czechs desire to learn English for a variety of reasons, some do it as a hobby, some for career advancement, classes etc. But it is a great outreach tool because it reaches to such a wide demographic. We drove an hour north to a fairly rural area, passed some cows, and got to the camp with  out issue.
Pictures out the window on the way there.

My self and Leefish with two girls at the Camp
Mrs. B came over separately with her husband and taught
the most advanced group
Mrs. L
Mr. B (second from left) and Mr. L lead music in the evenings.
We sang several songs, and got some audience interaction;

Blowing up balloons for the game

Ty, Mrs. Lee, and Leefish
The game was to pop the other persons balloon with your
foot, without getting your own balloon popped.

We also played 'Do you love your neighbor', you could tell
which Czechs didn't have very good English because they
would just say "No".

That is all that happened on Friday, Saturday was much more eventful, I can't wait to tell you about it!

In Brno

So we stopped off first in Brno in the Czech Republic. We stayed there in between going to the English camp and everywhere else. These first few pictures are pretty common to the Czech landscape; big rolling hills and medium sized trees with little leaves.

This was in the car on the way from Prague to Brno.

We went up to a hill just away from Brno to get a look at it
from far away, this is an airfield a few minutes away from
where we stayed.
This is a district of Brno called Meleansky (don't quote me
on the spelling). Our rooms were in the middle right section
of the picture.

That is Mr. Y pointing out his dream for the city, each section
of town had a story, it was really cool to see how the church
was spread throughout the city.

Czechs like to hike, and there were hiking trails
everywhere.

This was a large church in Brno. A monument
to the Czech's lost Christian heritage. All the
churches in the Czech Republic are like the
spiritual lives of its citizens. Empty and dead,
though wonderful.

Just a street in downtown Brno where we did
a little souvenir shopping.

A little point two liter coke at a hotel where we had lunch.

This is a traditional Czech meal; Dumplings (this was a sampler
of dumplings, clockwise from top left; traditional, Viennese,
and potato), which are made by boiling dough, beef, a roast,
two types of sauerkraut and some sauce, usually goulash.

This bakery took up half of a schnucks type grocery store.
A McDonald's in Brno
A cheese shop... oddly enough.

Apparently there are a lot of hedgehogs in the Czech
Republic, and they are pretty popular in the culture.
(No, I didn't see any)
Another church, this one was quite a bit bigger.

That's all I've got for now. The next post will be a rundown of the day or two before the English Camp, and how we had some last minute preparations.

To the Czech Republuc

     Hey Everybody!

I am back from a great mission trip in the Czech Republic with some friends, I will be making some posts over the next few days, so check back in again soon!

We left on the 30th and went through Chicago and Frankfurt before landing in Prague.

Prior to leaving Chicago;

Leefish and his eight dollar sandwich.
Myself before we left for Chicago.

Mrs. L got us donuts right before we left for Chicago.

In Chicago.
The Underground tunnel leading to the international terminal
in Chicago.

Lunch at Chili's; Chicken tortilla soup - with a LOT of cheese.

 In Frankfurt;
They make orange soda differently in Germany - our second
stop on the way to Prague. It has real oranges for the flavor

This is where we got a snack in Frankfurt. Apparently there
are bakeries everywhere in Germany. And they all make really
good food.

This is my German Pretzel. A really, really good pretzel.
Leefish sleeping in Frankfurt
Mr. L sleeping in Frankfurt
This was lunch; one of the absolute best sandwiches I have
ever had. The Germans know their bread.

I loved their tall skinny coke fridges.

I will be making another post about our trip to and our stay in Brno soon.
